2014 Broome Women's Football Grand Final

This year I have been taking part in the Clique Photo Competition, run by Fairfax Media.  Each month we get a different brief to fulfill, submitting one photo for judging.

This month's brief was 'Sport and Action', so when I found at the Grand Final of the Broome Women's Football competition was coming up I jumped at the chance to photograph it.

Sport photography, especially at night, was a very new challenge for me.  The early pictures were a bit iffy, but I think I got the hang of it by the end of the game.

It was a hard-fought match between The Pearls (in white) and Racing Guantanamo (orange).  End to end action that finished scoreless.  Racing won on penalties 2 - 1 (I think - I was concentrating on the photographs!), with the winning goal scored by their stand-in goalkeeper Gemma, who generally had a blinder!

A walk in the rock pools

A long weekend, a very low tide - what else are you going to do on a Sunday morning but get up early and go and explore rock pools.  These photos all taken at Entrance Point in Broome.

Back at last!

Wow!  I can't believe it's been nearly five months since I last posted here!  Very busy and interesting times, obviously.  I will see what I can do about making up for lost time!

This selection of pictures is from today's morning walk around the back of Demco and Simpson's beach.  Some of the best bird-watching in Broome happens around the sewerage ponds.

Clique Photography Challenge - Water

Fairfax Media (Sydney Morning Herald, The Age) have started the Clique Photographers Association, and are running a year-long series of monthly challenges.  February's theme was water; these are some of the pictures I took as I worked out what to submit.

This was the one I submitted.

I didn't make the list of finalists but, hey, there 1400 entries!
